Delete your account
You can delete your Foxnook account yourself at any time — right in the app or in your browser, no questions asked and no waiting period. This guide walks you through it step by step and explains what happens.
First: two things you cannot catch up on later
Export your data
If you want to keep your library, reading sessions and statistics, request your data export first: Profile → Data export. We email you a download link. It is valid for 48 hours and additionally protected by a one-time code that is shown only in the app. Your email address needs to be verified for this.
Deleting your account also invalidates a finished export archive immediately. Download it before you delete.
Cancel your subscription
An active subscription does not end automatically when you delete your account — billing runs through Apple or Google. Cancel it there first: on iPhone in your Apple ID settings under “Subscriptions”, on Android in the Google Play Store under “Subscriptions”. If you subscribed directly via foxnook.app, cancel under Profile → Subscription.
How to delete your account
The steps are identical in the iPhone app and in the web app.
-
Open Foxnook and sign in
Launch the app on your iPhone or open web.foxnook.app in your browser and sign in to your account.
-
Go to your profile
Tap “Profile” in the bottom navigation (in the sidebar on desktop).
-
Stay on the “Profile” tab
At the top you will see three tabs: “Profile”, “Subscription” and “Preferences”. All account actions live under “Profile” — the first one.
-
Tap “Delete Account”
Scroll all the way down. Below “Log out” you will find the red entry “Delete Account”.
-
Confirm the deletion
In the “Delete account?” dialog, confirm with “Delete Account”. You are signed out immediately. That is all it takes: no confirmation email, no waiting period, no manual follow-up.
What gets deleted
Once you confirm, we remove all personal data belonging to your account:
- Your library: books, shelves, custom lists and series
- Reading sessions, timer data and reading progress
- Statistics, reading streaks and your year in review
- Levels, XP and unlocked achievements
- Profile data: username, email address and preferences
- Pending and finished data exports along with their download links
Our book catalogue stays in place — what disappears is your connection to those titles, not the catalogue itself.
What happens afterwards
You are signed out immediately and can no longer sign in with this account. The deletion cannot be undone — we are unable to restore a deleted account.
Backup copies may still contain remnants for up to 30 days. They are not used any further and are overwritten with the regular backup cycle.
Invoice and payment data has to be retained because of statutory commercial and tax obligations. It is blocked from any further use and kept for that purpose alone.
Locked out of your account?
If you can no longer sign in, we will delete your account on request. Write to us from the email address you registered with — that lets us identify you without asking for further proof.
Your right to erasure follows from Art. 17 GDPR. What we store and why is described in our privacy policy.
